Back to the Future

For those of us who have been in and around the world of SAP for what seems like forever, ERP implementations are nothing new.

Taking it up a notch…replacing a highly complex, mostly automated ERP environment that was built up over more than 2 decades, with an entirely new technology stack, is certainly not for the faint-hearted.   We did it though… successfully too – thanks to an extraordinary internal team (consisting of carefully selected, highly skilled individuals to act as Sages on a Global level, combined with experienced Business and IT resources at operational level to ensure Business Needs were accurately articulated and met), and a willing and highly capable implementation partner who has walked (and is still walking) every step of the way with us on this journey.

Our business is not straightforward by any stretch of imagination, to say the least.  The level of complexity that needed to be catered for, called for some real maverick thinking to balance flexibility with standardisation, without disrupting the information flow with our trading partners.

Without sharing any business-specific detail, this talk will focus on what it takes in terms of individuals, teams and leadership to pull all of this together.  No matter how many times you embark on a new SAP implementation, there are certain things that will never change – things that can make or break an implementation.  No matter how well you plan and execute, these “familiar unknowns” are critical, and require focus and attention to achieve Synergy.

RES Corporation’s Enterprise Information Management and Analytics journey.

RES Corporation has recently embarked on a journey to transform and formulate their Enterprise Information & Analytics strategy. This has been a journey punctuated by, as expected, a lot of trials and difficulty along the way. In 2014, RES decided to adopt SAP as the company’s official ERP and with that came the need to harness and use the data from SAP to gain insights and generate value from it. RES also decided to use SAP Analytic tools to handle all the reporting and analytics needs of the business.

There has been a steep learning curve in terms of upskilling personnel and ensuring that the infrastructure would allow for all the changes. RES has changed their culture towards EIM and Analytics and continues to trailblaze and look for opportunities to improve. This presentation will serve as a case study of RES Corporation’s Analytics journey, highlighting the challenges and celebrating the successes.
